Privacy, in plain language.

Cool Kid Tabs handles browser context so it can save and restore the tabs you choose. That context is treated as private whether it stays on your device or you enable cloud sync.

What Cool Kid Tabs handles

Saved and open tab URLs and titles, notes, folder membership, session snapshots, local Chat transcripts, Chrome bookmark bindings, preferences, and optional account and folder-sharing information.

Local storage

Folders, tabs, sessions, Chat transcripts, bookmark bindings, and pending sync changes are stored in IndexedDB in your Chrome profile. Small preferences, provider endpoint and model settings, device identity, migration markers, and sync signals use chrome.storage.local. A provider API key is held only for the current Chrome session in trusted chrome.storage.session contexts. Cool Kid Tabs does not claim custom at-rest encryption, and session-only storage cannot protect a key from someone who controls the local Chrome profile or computer.

Optional cloud sync

Local-only use does not send saved tab data to a Cool Kid Tabs server. Signing in activates folder and tab sync through the Cool Kid Tabs authentication and PostgreSQL service over HTTPS. Folder access is checked again on every server change. Chat transcripts, provider credentials, Chrome IDs, open windows, and recovery sessions remain local.

Optional Chat provider

When you use Chat, the selected OpenRouter, OpenAI, or compatible provider receives your messages and model replies. If the model reads the organization JSON, the provider also receives all active folder names and tab URLs, titles, notes, and kinds. The API key is never included in IndexedDB, local storage, cloud sync, exports, sessions, transcripts, or logs. The selected provider's own privacy and retention terms apply.

How the data is used

Data is used only to provide or improve tab organization, browser actions, sync, sharing, reliability, and support that you request. It is not sold, used for personalized advertising, or transferred for unrelated purposes.

The use of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Humans do not read your saved browsing data except with your specific consent for support, when needed for security or abuse investigation, or when legally required.

Chrome permissions

Cool Kid Tabs uses storage, tabs, alarms, the side panel, and context menus to provide its visible tab-management features. Bookmark import and managed bookmark synchronization use an optional bookmarks permission. Provider access is optional and granted to the exact configured HTTPS origin when you press Connect. Required production host access is limited to the exact Cool Kid Tabs sync and authentication service.

Your choices and deletion

You can turn off the New Tab replacement, clear the session provider key, disable bookmark sync, export a backup, remove local data from this browser, delete owned synced data, or delete the cloud account. Local and cloud deletion are separate so clearing one does not silently erase the other. Deleting the managed Chrome bookmark root pauses bookmark sync and does not delete the Cool Kid Tabs library.
